Academic honors for 7 UH softball players

Seven members of last season’s University of Hawaii softball team were recognized as National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athletes.

Alex Aguirre, Jori Jasper, Sharla Kliebenstein, Kelly Majam, Dara Pagaduan, Lauren Parnaby and Keiko Sugihara earned the distinction by maintaining grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher during the 2011-12 academic year.

Aguirre and Majam joined former UH players Tracie Uchima, Julie Franklin and Clare Warwick as the only UH players to earn the award for four years. Majam redshirted her first year at UH and will complete her eligibility this spring.

Wahine volleyball banquet Jan. 21

The Hawaii women’s volleyball banquet is scheduled for Jan. 21 at the Hale Koa Hotel.

The registration deadline is Jan. 11. Cost is $55 per person (general public) and $50 for booster club members. Tables of 10 are also available ranging from $500 to $600. Sponsorship of a player is $55.
