A high surf advisory has been issued for east-facing shores of Oahu through 6 p.m. Thursday.

Forecasters predict 6- to 8-foot surf for east-facing shores.

Beachgoers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break due to hazardous wave action.

The National Weather Service said an area of strong trade winds is building an east swell and will remain in place at least through Thursday.

The Weather Service and breaking waves will cause hazardous conditions in the surf zone, including dangerous rip currents.
