Family escapes Hilo house fire unharmed
A Hilo family of three escaped unharmed after a fire engulfed their home.
At about 12:45 a.m., firefighters responded to the fire at the single-story home on Hoku Street.
Two parents and a child who were inside the home at the time of the fire managed to escape. The blaze was under control at 1:10 a.m. and extinguished at 1:20 a.m., according to a news release by the Hawaii County Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
Damage was estimated at $68,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
A residence near the home also sustained minor fire damage.
