10-year-old swims Au‘au Channel
Skylar Webb, a 10-year-old fourth-grader at Le Jardin Academy, was among 11 Aulea Swim Club members who successfully swam across the Au‘au Channel between Lanai and Maui last month.
Webb is believed to be the youngest to swim the 8.9-mile channel at 10 years and two months, finishing in 6 hours, 54 minutes on Nov. 23. Florida’s Rebecca Mann was 10 years, nine months when she swam the channel several years ago.
Other Aulea swimmers who completed swim, the sixth for the club, were Mark Baker, Josh Bittick, Jaek Horner, Cameron Lyon, Nicolas Zachmeier, Van Cornwell, Katie de Mieri, Eric and Celia Compton, and Webb’s father, Alex.
Deadline for Futsal tourney today
Registration for the Dec. 30 Winter Shootout Futsal Tournament, a 5-on-5 soccer event at Central Oahu Regional Park, is today.
Adult premier teams will vie for a $1,000 cash prize. Other divisions begin at 8U and continue through adult coed and open.

Sharon’s Ride/Run/Walk coming up
The annual Sharon’s Ride/Run/Walk, sponsored by the Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii, is scheduled for Jan. 27 beginning at Kapiolani Park.
The event features bike rides of 35K, 75K and 100K and timed runs of 5K and 10K, and a 1-mile walk. The bike rides start at 7 a.m., the runs at 7:30 a.m. and the walk at 8:30 a.m.
The entry fee is $30. Net proceeds go to the Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii for educational and informational services.
There is also a keiki bike and safety course at 10 a.m.
