Man hospitalized after stabbing at lookout
A 28-year-old man was taken to a hospital in serious condition Friday morning after he was reportedly stabbed and struck by a rock at the Diamond Head Lookout, according to the city Department of Emergency Services.
The assault occurred at about 6 a.m.
Police said they did not receive a report of the stabbing.
A similar incident occurred in October at Diamond Head Beach. At about 6:30 a.m. Oct. 31, police had said a male suspect tried to take a 48-year-old woman’s property. After a struggle the man stabbed the woman with a dangerous instrument. Police said the man fled after the woman screamed.
She was transported in serious condition to a hospital. Police said she suffered up to five possible stab wounds to her body.
Driver allegedly targets, hits police officer
Police opened a second-degree attempted-murder investigation after a woman allegedly drove at a police officer Friday and struck him in Waikiki.
Police said the 32-year-old male police officer was struck by a mirror on a vehicle while he was using a laser device to monitor vehicle speeds.
The officer reported that the woman drove directly at him, hitting him as he jumped out of the vehicle’s path. The woman drove off and left the scene.
The incident occurred at 4:10 p.m. near the Waikiki Shell at Monsarrat and Kapahulu avenues.
The officer was not seriously injured, according to Emergency Medical Services.

Credit card thief sought on Hawaii island
Hawaii County police asked for the public’s help Friday in identifying a man who allegedly stole more than $1,700 by using someone else’s credit card for purchases in Hilo, Waimea and Pahoa.
A security camera recorded a photo of the man who allegedly used the card.
Police described the suspect as in his late 20s to early 30s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, bald with a goatee, and with tattoos on his neck and left arm. Police ask that anyone with information on his identity or his whereabouts call the police non-emergency line at 935-3311.
Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call CrimeStoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
Police reminded merchants to follow proper protocol when making credit card transactions and to be especially cautious when processing large purchases, especially if the credit card doesn’t swipe properly. When in doubt, check with the credit card company, police said.
Hilo family safe after house fire
A Hilo family of three escaped unharmed after a fire damaged their home early Friday.
Firefighters responded at 12:45 a.m. to the fire at the single-story home on Hoku Street.
Two parents and a child who were inside the home at the time of the fire escaped. The blaze was under control at 1:10 a.m. and extinguished at 1:20 a.m., said a news release by the Hawaii County Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
Damage was estimated at $68,000. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
A nearby home sustained minor fire damage.
