Isles may be due for wet Christmas
The National Weather Service predicts overcast skies with an elevated chance of rain on Christmas, when stabilized tradewinds are expected to return.
East-southeast winds are expected to shift easterly, resulting in localized land breezes. Showers will continue to favor windward and southeast slopes through Monday as high clouds thicken from west to east.
The weather service has issued a high-surf advisory for the east shores of Maui and Hawaii island through 6 a.m. Monday.
Forecasters predict waves of 6 to 9 feet as a result of a north swell moving past the state. The weather service warned that high surf would cause hazardous conditions in the surf zone, including dangerous rip currents.
