Information about the official New Year’s Eve celebration in Las Vegas has been announced. Known as "America’s Party," the show will encompass both the famed annual fireworks show on the Strip and live entertainment downtown at the Fremont Street Experience.
The Strip fireworks will be launched from seven rooftop locations: MGM Grand, Aria, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, TI, Venetian and Stratosphere. The downtown party will run from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. and feature performances by Buckcherry and Queensryeche.
Tickets are $30 until Friday, when they rise to $40.
Nog: Ellis Island’s holiday eggnog is now available. This is the 10th straight year that the nog has been mixed and sold from the bar at the casino (it contains alcohol). The price is the same as last year: $6 per glass and $29.99 per bottle.
Buffet is back: The buffet at Aria, which closed in October for remodeling, has reopened, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and "bottomless beverage" services. Prices range from $17.95 for breakfast to $38.95 for "gourmet" dinner and the weekend champagne bruch.
Kate’s Korner kaput: Kate’s Korner, the longtime snack bar/ice cream shop at the Gold Coast, is no more. Construction is under way on what will be a Subway.
New home for "Legends": Long-running tribute show "Legends in Concert" will have a new home at the Flamingo in 2013. The show, which closes at Harrah’s Dec. 30, has a multiyear deal with its sister property beginning in February.

Answer: A cab strike would affect transportation significantly, but you don’t have to worry about it for the holidays. The threatened strike has been averted, at least though the end of January, thanks to a temporary extension of the current labor contract.
