The city is reminding Oahu residents that there will be no refuse collection today and New Year’s Day, the only two holidays observed by the Department of Environmental Services.
Residents who normally have their gray trash carts picked up on Tuesday should leave them curbside, to be picked up later in the week — usually within two days, the city said.
Residents who normally have mixed recyclables (blue carts) and green waste (green carts) picked up on Tuesday must hold those items until Jan. 8, the next scheduled pickup date. Recycling pickups that fall on Jan. 1 and today will not be made up.
Residents on twice-a-week manual collection routes should hold items until the next scheduled pickup.
Bulky-item pickup, conducted over a three- to four-day period in each sector, will resume on the days following the holidays.
City refuse convenience centers, transfer stations, HPOWER and Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill will be closed today and Jan. 1.

CHRISTMAS TREES
Oahu residents may recycle their Christmas trees and holiday wreaths in their green waste carts, leave them curbside if they are on a manual collection route, or drop them off at a refuse convenience center.
Trees must be bare of flocking, ornaments and tinsel.
Residents with a green waste cart should cut the tree so it fits inside with the lid closed.
Residents on a manual collection route should cut the tree into 3-foot segments, bundle it and leave it curbside on the collection day.
The city operates 10 refuse convenience centers around Oahu. See a list at tinyurl.com/d6vgp44.
