Collision kills Kauai motorcyclist, 25
A Kalaheo motorcyclist died Wednesday night after a traffic collision near the Kaumualii Highway and Puolo Road junction in Hanapepe, Kauai.
Police said Brian Cesario, 25, was traveling east on the highway when he collided with a westbound Ford F-150 truck making a left turn to Puolo Road at about 6:30 p.m.
Cesario died of his injuries at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital, police said.
He was not wearing a helmet.
The 71-year-old man driving the Ford pickup suffered minor injuries.
Kaumualii Highway was closed in both directions near mile marker 17 for about four hours while police investigated the crash. Traffic was diverted onto Hanapepe Road until the highway could be reopened shortly before 11 p.m.
The death is the eighth traffic fatality on Kauai this year.
Woman hurt when pinned between cars
A 22-year-old woman was seriously injured when she was pinned between two cars in a parking lot where a hostess bar is located in the Ala Moana area.
The male driver of a 2011 four-door, gray Ford sedan was reversing out of a marked stall at 1429 Makaloa St. at 4 a.m. Thursday and struck the back of an unattended, parked vehicle, police said.
When the woman tried to notify the driver of the car, she was pinned between the two vehicles and suffered leg injuries.
She was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
Police said the man fled the scene of the accident.
Police said it was unknown whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the incident.
Boys arrested in unauthorized car entry
Police arrested two suspected thieves Wednesday night after witnesses saw them in their car.
Police said a 53-year-old woman and 24-year-old man saw the boys, ages 12 and 13, in their car and confronted them at about 7 p.m. at an undisclosed Honolulu location.
The boys fled, but one of the witnesses chased them until police arrived and arrested the pair.
Police said the boys had an item belonging to the 24-year-old man when they were detained.
After being processed for their arrests on suspicion of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, the boys were released pending further investigation.
Lahaina hiker, 65, is rescued from trail
Maui fire rescue personnel airlifted a stranded 65-year-old Lahaina woman who was hiking on the Pali Trail on Thursday.
The woman started her hike in Maalaea and got to the 1-mile marker on the Lahaina side of the trail before feeling faint, a fire official reported.
She called 911, and fire personnel decided to bring her down by helicopter.
The woman was brought down to a landing zone around noon and transferred to a medic unit. She was not injured, but was dehydrated and lethargic, a fire official said.
