Copper thieves strike at two locations on Kauai
Kauai police are investigating a pair of copper thefts that occurred in Kekaha and Hanapepe this week.
The first occurred sometime between 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. Thursday at a storage facility on Kekaha Road, across the old Kekaha Sugar Mill. Sixteen rolls of copper wiring, valued at approximately $8,000, were stolen. Police said the thieves apparently cut through a padlock to get to the rolls.
In the other case, thieves apparently cut through a chain link fence at Hanapepe Stadium and stole three rolls of copper, valued at approximately $2,000, from a storage shed. The theft occurred sometime between 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Anyone with information on either incident is asked to call Kauai Police Department dispatch at 241-1711 or Det. Bryson Ponce at 241-1681.
