Seven people were transported to the hospital Tuesday after they were involved in a head-on collision on Highway 19 on Hawaii island.
The crash involving a full-size van and a four-door sedan occurred at about 1 p.m. in Honokaa.
Both vehicles had extensive front damage, according to a news release by the Hawaii County Fire Department.
One occupant was transported via helicopter to the Hilo Medical Center. Two others also were transported by ambulance to the same hospital.
The four remaining occupants were transported to the North Hawaii Community Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.
Police shut down Highway 19 in both directions between Pakalana and Plumeria Streets until further notice as they conduct an investigation.
