Hawaii Pacific routs Champion Baptist
Marko Cukic and Leif Rodney both scored 18 points, and Jason Jordan added 17 to lead Hawaii Pacific to a 109-51 win over Champion Baptist in a nonconference men’s game Monday at Blaisdell Arena.
Jelany White added 13 points and nine assists, and the Sea Warriors hit 12 of their 3-point shot attempts en route to passing the century mark for the first time this season. Malte Ziegenhagen hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points for HPU (3-5).
Brandon Likins scored 21 points and Mathias Capaci added 16 for the Tigers (3-15), a powerhouse in the Association of Christian College Athletics.
Silverswords win conference opener
Rhani Kaneaiakala and Clacen Florita each scored 16 points as Chaminade opened PacWest play with a 77-68 victory over Holy Names 77-68 on Monday at McCabe Gym.
Shana Kawakami added 15 points, Dianna Zane 11 and Nikki Tauau 10 for the Silverswords (1-5, 1-2). Kaneaiakala and Tauau just missed double-doubles, finishing with nine rebounds apiece.
Britney Potestio scored a game-high 21 points for the Hawks (4-5, 1-2).
The teams meet again at 2 p.m. today in a nonconference game at McCabe.
UHH’s Melonas earns weekly honor
Hawaii Hilo senior forward Michael Melonas was named the PacWest player of the week after helping the Vulcans to a 116-54 rout of Champion Baptist last week.
Melonas had 26 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals in playing just 25 minutes.
MEN’S HONOR ROLL
>> C.J. Brown, UHH: The senior guard had 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, a steal and a block in a win over Champion Baptist. He was 3-for-3 from 3-point range with no turnovers in 28 minutes of play.
>> Micah Dunhour, NDNU: The sophomore guard out of Academy of the Pacific scored 23 points, going 7-for-8 from the field, and added five rebounds in the Argonauts’ 85-78 win over Menlo.
>> Kiel Myers, UHH: The senior forward turned in a double-double (18 points, 12 rebounds) with three assists, two steals and a block in 25 minutes against Champion Baptist.
>> Derek Owens, UHH: The junior guard scored 14 points with five rebounds in Vulcans’ lone game of the week.
