The Hawaii women’s basketball team gave up a back-breaking run late and fell 83-74 to Cal State Fullerton in its return to the league today at Fullerton, Calif.

UH’s Shawna Kuehu tied the game at 69 on a free throw with 2:44 to play, but the Titans went on a 9-0 run from there to seize control.

Over that decisive span, UH committed three turnovers and missed two free throws.

The Wahine (4-8, 0-1) shot a blistering 60 percent from the field, but committed 24 turnovers to only nine for the Titans (5-8, 1-0).

Junior forward Kamilah Martin led the Rainbow Wahine with 23 points and eight rebounds. Kuehu added 11 points off the bench and freshman Ashleigh Karaitiana added 10.

The Wahine continue play at UC Riverside on Saturday.
