Sex offender sentenced to 15-year term
Kauai Circuit Judge Kathleen Watanabe sentenced a registered sex offender Wednesday to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.
Jason Toki was sentenced on two counts of third-degree sex assault and five counts of noncompliance to update his sex offender registration.
Third-degree sex assault is a class C felony that carries a maximum of five years in prison and $10,000 fine.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Arin said the girl told a pastor of the sex assault, which occurred in November 2011. The girl’s family had provided Toki a place to stay for a few days after he became homeless.
Arin said Toki confessed to the sex-assault offenses and pleaded guilty Nov. 13.
He has been in custody at the Kauai Community Correctional Center since his arrest in February for failing multiple times to provide updated information on his address as required of sex offenders.
Toki, also known as Jayson Toki and Jayson Michael Toki, has a criminal record that includes a July 1998 conviction of third-degree sex assault, abuse of a family member, harassment by stalking and first-degree criminal trespassing.
