Slain man was owner of construction firm
The girlfriend of Big Island Construction owner Lloyd J. Rubio remained in custody Tuesday for allegedly fatally stabbing him in Hilo, while Hawaii County detectives continued their investigation.
Police arrested the 37-year-old Hilo woman Monday night for allegedly stabbing Rubio, 38, in his Hilo home in the 1400 block of Kaumana Drive.
Police said Rubio’s children were home at the time of the early morning stabbing, reported at 5:19 a.m. Monday.
Police identified Rubio as the victim Tuesday.
An autopsy Tuesday morning showed Rubio died from a stab wound to the abdomen with an injury to the aorta, police said.
The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide. Toxicology tests are pending.
Police arrested the woman on suspicion of second-degree murder Monday night.
