BOWL RECAP
>> Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o (Punahou ’09) made 10 tackles in his final collegiate game, a 42-14 loss to Alabama in the BCS National Championship game Monday. Receiver Robby Toma (Punahou ’09) and defensive lineman Kona Schwenke (Kahuku ’10) played for Notre Dame, but did not record official statistics.
>> Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota (Saint Louis ’11) was 12-for-24 for 166 yards and two touchdowns and rushed eight times for 62 yards and a touchdown in a 35-17 win over Kansas State in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl last Thursday. He was named the offensive player of the game. Defensive lineman DeForest Buckner (Punahou ’12) made two solo tackles and Koa Ka‘ai (Kamehameha ’11) and Wade Keliikipi (Waianae ’09) also played for the Ducks.
>> Oregon State linebacker Feti Unga (Kahuku ’06) had four tackles and an interception and defensive tackle Castro Masaniai (Waipahu ’07) had four tackles, including one for a loss, in a 31-27 loss to Texas in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29. Defensive lineman Devon Kell (Hilo ’09) assisted on two tackles for the Beavers.
>> Navy junior Wave Ryder (Kamehameha ’10) made two tackles in a 62-28 loss to Arizona State in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl on Dec. 29. Senior center Kahikolu Pescaia (Kamehameha ’08) also played for Navy.
>> UCLA’s Dalton Hilliard (Punahou ’09) made five tackles, and defensive tackle Sealii Epenesa (‘Iolani ’10) made a solo stop in a 49-26 loss to Baylor in the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl on Dec. 27. Freshman kicker Kaimi Fairbairn (Punahou ’12) made field goals of 30 and 40 yards and converted two extra points for the Bruins.
>> Bowling Green’s David Kekuewa (Kamehameha-Hawaii ’09) started at center and helped the Falcons give up only two sacks and rush for 105 yards in a 29-20 loss to San Jose State in the Military Bowl on Dec. 27.
>> Boise State safety Jeremy Ioane (Punahou ’10) made five tackles and had the game-clinching interception in a 28-26 win over Washington in the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 22. Washington defensive tackle Semisi Tokolahi (Hilo ’09) assisted on two tackles and linebacker Taz Stevenson (Mililani ’10) and offensive lineman Shane Brostek (Hawaii Prep ’12) also played for the Huskies.
>> Utah State safety Brian Suite (Punahou ’10) had a 10-yard interception return and made a solo tackle in a 41-15 win over Toledo in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Dec. 15. Defensive lineman Elvis Kamana-Matagi (King Kekaulike ’10) also played for the Aggies.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
>> La Verne guard Jourdan Simmonds (‘Iolani ’11) scored 17 points on just six shot attempts and added two steals in a 73-63 win over Chapman (Calif.) on Saturday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
>> Utah senior guard Iwalani Rodrigues (Kalani ’08) finished 8-for-18 from the field for a game-high 21 points and played all 40 minutes of a 70-56 loss to Stanford on Sunday.
>> Brigham Young guard Kylie Maeda (‘Iolani ’12) had three points, five assists and two rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench of an 80-58 win over San Francisco on Saturday.
>> Cal State Northridge senior Violet Alama (Kalani ’09) had four points, four rebounds, an assist and a block in 22 minutes off the bench of a 56-55 win over CSU Fullerton on Saturday.
>> Puget Sound guard Ashley Agcaoili (Maryknoll ’11) had six points and four assists in 18 minutes off the bench of a 75-45 win over Willamette (Ore.) on Friday. Forward Julia Brand (Punahou ’11) had 10 points, five rebounds and two steals, and Daena Mau (Punahou ’11) had three points, three assists and two rebounds for the Bearcats.
>> Portland State forward Keaton McFadden (Mid-Pacific ’10) totaled eight points and five rebounds in eight minutes off the bench of a 70-55 loss to Montana on Saturday.
>> Pacific (Ore.) sophomore forward Anuhea Wall (Konawaena ’11) was 3-for-7 from the field for nine points in 17 minutes off the bench of a 69-54 loss to Whitman (Wash.) on Friday.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
>> Brigham Young libero Jaylen Reyes (Kamehameha ’11) tallied 17 digs and an assist in two wins over Hawaii over the weekend. Reyes had a game-high 12 digs in a four-set win on Saturday.
>> Southern California setter Micah Christenson (Kamehameha ’11) had 42 assists, eight digs and three block assists, and Henry Cassiday (Punahou ’10) had eight digs, three kills and two block assists in a four-set exhibition loss to Alberta (Canada) on Friday. Sophomore middle Ben Lam (Punahou ’11) added three block assists, two kills and a solo block for the Trojans.
MEN’S SWIMMING
>> La Verne (Calif.) junior Marc Okimura (Punahou ’10) won the 100 breaststroke (59.86 seconds) and 200 breast (2:09.48) events in a dual-meet loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday.
