Woman dies when hit by car
A 35-year-old homeless woman was killed early Thursday morning when she was struck by a car while walking on a road in Waimanalo near Jack in the Box.
Police said the woman was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center after being hit by a car traveling east on Kalanianaole Highway near Poalima Street at 1:05 a.m. She had been walking on the road and was not in a marked crosswalk. She died at the hospital.
Vog expected with wind shift
A change in the weather could bring light winds, a hazy, humid and wet weekend and snow to Big Island summits.
National Weather Service forecasters say an approaching cold front will block northeast tradewinds starting today, leaving light, variable winds, mostly from the south. Those winds could bring vog from Kilauea volcano and humidity Saturday through Monday.
The unstable weather could mean showers for leeward and mountain slopes, and thundershowers on Hawaii island and Maui.
Strong northeast winds east of the islands are also generating large and potentially dangerous surf that should peak tonight into Saturday morning for east shores. Forecasters expect waves of 7 to 10 feet through Saturday morning.
