Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association recently honored Robert "Kui" Wright, head bartender at the Mai Tai Bar at the Royal Hawaiian, as its Outstanding Lodging Employee of the Year.

Wright and 24 others were recognized Thursday at the Na Poe Paahana ("the hardworking people") awards luncheon for their contributions to the state’s visitor industry.

"It’s hard to imagine the Mai Tai Bar without Kui. His presence behind the bar is a welcome sight for many of its return guests," said Vale­rie Okawa, Royal Hawaiian’s human resources manager. "Through his talents as a superb mixologist and his open and friendly demeanor, Kui personally enhances each and every guest’s experience in Hawaii. His dedication as a true ambassador of the aloha spirit allows him to carry on a tradition of excellence at the Mai Tai Bar."
