A man in his 20s was fatally injured Sunday when the motorcycle he was operating apparently collided with another vehicle on the H-1 freeway.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the east-bound lanes near the Waimalu offramp.

The rider, believed to be in his 20s, was transported in extremely critical condition to an local trauma center, where he later died.

Police closed four of the five east-bound lanes of the freeway for more than three hours while they investigated the incident. The lanes reopened just before 9 p.m.
