Hawaii County police on Tuesday discovered a body off Stainback Highway in Hilo near where they previously found a set of badly decomposed remains while searching for missing Dante Peter Gilman, who is presumed dead.

Detectives and a scent-discriminating dog conducted checks in the area Tuesday after receiving an anonymous tip of a body off “Tree Planting Road.”

On Friday, a badly decomposed body was found off the ATV Trail Park off Stainback Highway. An autopsy was performed on those remains, but detectives are awaiting more examination and toxicology reports “due to the advanced state of decomposition,” before releasing the exact cause of death, police said.

According to court documents, two cousins charged in Gilman’s murder were on video surveillance from Gilman’s home.

Claude Keone Krause and Kawena Krause are scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in a Puna courtroom Thursday.

According to a police affidavit and a police report, Claude Keone Krause, 30; Kawena Krause, 19; and a younger, unidentified male allegedly confronted Gilman, who was reported missing Jan. 10, at his Hawaiian Acres home. The arrest report says an altercation took place at Gilman’s home on Dec. 28 involving the three suspects.

Police said the surveillance footage shows one man, who appears to be Claude Krause, pointing a rifle at Gilman and shooting him.

Subsequent footage shows a person who appears to be Kawena Krause, “applying a chokehold on Gilman while on the ground until his body goes limp,” the document says.

The cousins were charged Saturday and are being held without bail.

Claude Keone Krause was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, second-degree theft, two counts of ownership/possession of a prohibited firearm, and use of  firearm in the commission of a separate felony.

Kawena Krause was charged Saturday with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, second-degree theft and use of a firearm in the commission of separate felony.
