Fatal accident victim was Schofield soldier
Officials identified a man killed in a motorcycle crash Sunday as soldier Trevor McGurran, 23, of Wahiawa.
Military officials said McGurran was stationed at Schofield Barracks and was a member of the 715th Military Intelligence Battalion, which is attached to the 500th Military Intelligence Brigade.
Police said McGurran’s motorcycle was traveling east on the H-1 freeway near the Waimalu offramp at about 5:30 p.m. when it collided with a motor vehicle. He was transported in extremely critical condition to a hospital where he later died.
The death was the sixth on Oahu roads so far this year. There were two traffic deaths at this time a year ago.
Hawaii Kai man identified as crash victim
A man who died last week from injuries sustained in a scooter crash earlier this month has been identified by the city Medical Examiner’s Office as Daniel Bogert, 33.
Bogert, of Hawaii Kai, died Friday from injuries sustained in a crash at about 3 p.m. Jan. 2. Police said Bogert’s scooter had just left the H-1 freeway westbound King Street offramp and was on Old Waialae Road near the Hawaiian Humane Society when he lost control and crashed. He was not wearing a helmet.
He was taken by Emergency Medical Services personnel in critical condition to the hospital.
Motorcycle theft leads to parolee’s arrest
A 41-year-old parolee with a long string of convictions was arrested Monday night near the University of Hawaii law school in Manoa for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.
Police said the suspect also faces a charge of parole violation. The suspect was convicted of 17 misdemeanors and two felonies, including second-degree assault, starting in 1991.
The suspect was seen driving the motorcycle on Dole Street in front of the law school when he was stopped at 5:30 p.m. Monday and ran from police. Police determined the motorcycle had been stolen.
Early morning assault yields 1 arrest
Police arrested a 25-year-old man after he allegedly assaulted another man on Keeaumoku Street early Monday morning.
According to police, the victim, a 33-year-old man, was talking to another person when two men approached. One of the men assaulted the victim and then kicked him in the face when he fell down. The two suspects fled, but police later located and identified the man who allegedly assaulted him.
The second suspect has not yet been arrested.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
