Two cousins charged in the murder of 44-year-old Dante Peter Gilman on Hawaii island are visible on video surveillance from Gilman’s home, according to court documents.
Claude Keone Krause and Kawena Krause were scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in a Puna courtroom Thursday.
According to a police affidavit and a police report, Claude Keone Krause, 30; Kawena Krause, 19; and a younger, unidentified male allegedly confronted and argued with Gilman on Dec. 28 at his Hawaiian Acres home.
Gilman was reported missing Jan. 10.
Police said the surveillance footage shows one man, who appears to be Claude Krause, pointing a rifle at Gilman and shooting him.
Subsequent footage shows a person who appears to be Kawena Krause "applying a chokehold on Gilman while on the ground until his body goes limp," the document says.
The cousins were charged Saturday and are being held without bail.
Claude Krause was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, second-degree theft, two counts of ownership/possession of a prohibited firearm and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Kawena Krause was charged Saturday with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, second-degree theft and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
While searching for Gilman off Stainback Highway in Hilo on Jan. 18, police found badly decomposed remains that were identified through dental records Thursday as those of Shayne Yoshi Kalani Kobayashi, 38. The circumstances of Kobayashi’s death are still being investigated, but foul play is suspected.
Police are also working with an anthropologist from the Joint POW Accounting Command/Central Identification Laboratory at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam to conduct additional analyses.
A second body was discovered Tuesday two miles away from where Kobayashi was found, but that person has not yet been identified.
