An approaching cold front pushing an unstable and moist air mass from the northwest will likely mean wet and wild conditions for Sunday’s NFL Pro Bowl.
Anticipating heavy rain and possible flooding, the National Weather Service has issued a flash-flood watch for Oahu and Kauai from Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon.
Forecasters said the storm appears to be slowing, which would mean the rain will linger longer, making flooding more likely.
The storm is expected to move down the island chain, reaching Maui County and Hawaii island by late Monday.
The forecast for Saturday calls for light, southeast winds with clouds and showers over interior and mauka sections during the afternoon.
A drier flow is expected to follow the rainy weather on Tuesday, resulting in a return of northeasterly tradewinds.
The trades may bring showers in windward and mauka areas, but these are expected to be lighter overall than those associated with the weekend storm system, according to the NWS.
Meanwhile, surf forecasters are predicting small to moderate northwest swells through the weekend.
A large northwest swell is expected to arrive late Sunday and may result in high-surf conditions along north- and west-facing shores from Monday into Tuesday. The swell will slowly subside over the next two to three days while a long-period west-northwest swell arrives around midweek.
