TSEU RECEIVES PREIS HONOR FROM HAWAI'I ARTS ALLIANCE
1. Dr. Lawrence K.W. Tseu, center, recipient of the Hawai'i Arts Alliance 2012 Alfred Preis Honor "for his lifetime support of the arts, education and community in Hawaii," welcomed Caroline Young, left, Nancy Kwan, Leilani Keough and Norbert Meisel to the award presentation dinner Jan. 19 at the Kahala Hotel and Resort. Tseu explained his commitment to philanthropy by referencing the Bible -- "Inasmuch as you have done (charitable works) unto the least of my brethren you have done it unto me" -- and Kahlil Gibran: "If there be any kindness I can do ... let me do it now."

DUKE'S PACKED WALL-TO-WALL FOR ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY
5. Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning singer/musician "Uncle Bobby" Moderow Jr., left, flashed a shaka as he congratulated TS Restaurants Regional Manager Chris Colgate, Duke's Waikiki General Manager Dylan Ching, manager Jasmine Medina and TS Restaurants exec Ross Anderson on the 20th anniversary of Duke's Waikiki Jan. 18 at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Hotel. The celebration was packed, and Ching had food stations dispersed throughout the club so no one would have a long wait in line.

FERNANDEZ'S HANA HOU SURPRISES PARTY GUESTS
4. Kamaka Fernandez caught up with fellow musician Jenn "J-RoQ" Wright at the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts' farewell reception for visiting music writers Jan. 15 at the Hilton Waikiki Beach Hotel on Kuhio Avenue. Fernandez entertained the visitors with a set of beautiful Hawaiian music that included songs from his debut CD, "Wahi Mahalo," then surprised one and all when he responded to calls for a "hana hou" with an impeccable hapa-haole rendition of Beyonce's 2006 hit, "Irreplaceable."
