BYU-Hawaii women rout Chaminade
Brigham Young-Hawaii blitzed Chaminade 81-41 in a Pacific West Conference women’s basketball game Saturday in Laie.
Shayla Washington scored 24 points and added 12 rebounds for the Seasiders (5-11, 4-6).
Kennedi Akana had eight points and seven boards to lead Chaminade (1-15, 1-10).
Hawaii Pacific edges Hawaii-Hilo
Malte Ziegenhagen put up 22 points as Hawaii Pacific held off Hawaii-Hilo 68-66 in a PacWest men’s basketball game Saturday at Blaisdell Arena.
Marko Cukic added 17 points and 10 boards for the Sea Warriors (8-10, 5-6).
CJ Brown scored 13 points to lead the Vulcans (5-14, 3-8).

Susannah Walmsley scored 21 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Sea Warriors (12-5, 8-2).

Hawaii Pacific opens with baseball sweep
The Hawaii Pacific baseball team started its season by winning both ends of a doubleheader Saturday against Augustana College (South Dakota) at Hans L’Orange Park.
Marvin Campbell and Codey Ellenwood both homered in the opener as the Sea Warriors won 14-7. Designated hitter Chad Bolibol hit three doubles and brought in four runs. Michael Murray got the win, giving up six runs (four earned) over 51⁄3 innings.
In the second game, Campbell drew a game-ending, bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning, giving HPU the 7-6 victory. After Augustana scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-5 lead, the Sea Warriors forced extra innings when Campbell scored on an error in the bottom half. Edward Trovato pitched two innings in relief of starter Joshua Garcia to earn the win.
Wahine water polo earns split
The Hawaii women’s water polo team went 1-1 on the first day of the Stanford Women’s Water Polo Invitational on Saturday in Stanford, Calif.
Senior Monika Eggens scored three goals as the 12th-ranked Rainbow Wahine dropped a 12-7 decision to No. 3 UCLA in morning pool play.
Eggens tallied five goals and Amarens Genee added four to lead the Rainbow Wahine over No. 14 Indiana 14-6 in the afternoon.
Hawaii plays fourth-ranked Cal this morning as the tournament wraps up today.
Miano, Burgess to speak at QB Club
Rich Miano, Kaiser High School football coach and co-founder of Hawaii Speed and Quickness, and Waikiki Swim Club’s Bill Burgess are the scheduled guest speakers for Monday’s Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon at the Maple Garden restaurant.
The lunch is at 11:30 a.m. and the program begins at noon. The cost is $15 per person and the general public is invited.
