There will be no forgetting Inouye now
No doubt the late U.S. Sen Daniel Inouye was instrumental in funneling lots of funds to the University of Hawaii and its various programs.
Now, UH is returning the love with a plan to name four UH entities after him, one on each of the main islands: The Daniel K. Inouye Center for Microbial Oceanography at UH-Manoa, the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy at UH-Hilo; the Daniel K. Inouye Allied Health Center at UH Maui College and the Daniel K. Inouye Electronics Technology Building at Kauai Community College.
Quite the honor. But come to think of it, there’s still Kahoolawe. Can anyone say "Inouye Island"?
Preseason or not, pro baseball is back
If you’re reading this at the breakfast table, it’s probably not too late to catch some of the first televised major league baseball game of the year, featuring the Washington Nationals and the New York Mets.
Part of the league’s "spring training" season, it was to start at 7 a.m. Hawaii time, on channels 208 or 1208. It’s taking place in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Two MLB games also will be broadcast Sunday: the Toronto Blue Jays versus the New York Yankees, in Tampa (8 a.m.), and the Oakland A’s versus the Los Angeles Angels, in Tempe, Ariz. (10 a.m., on channels 20, 226 or 1226).
Meanwhile, back in Hawaii, the University of Hawaii Rainbows started a four-game series Friday against Rice University at Les Murakami Stadium in Manoa. If you can’t make it in person, today’s game will be on the radio (1420-AM), starting at 1 p.m.; the Sunday and Monday games will be on radio and TV (OC 16).
Oh, and Go ‘Bows!
