Shooting ends in man’s arrest
Maui police used Tasers to subdue a 37-year-old man who allegedly fired an AK-47 assault rifle into the air in Waikapu on Friday night.
Christopher Hook was behaving erratically when he was arrested at about 10 p.m., according to the Maui News.
Hook was charged with first-degree reckless endangering, first-degree resisting arrest and four counts of first-degree terroristic threatening. Bail was set at $5,200.
A witness said there were three shots altogether.
When police arrived, Hook was no longer holding the rifle, but was armed with a 6-inch folding knife, said officer Karen Wong.
He yelled obscenities at officers and resisted arrest, Wong said. Officers then used stun guns to subdue him, shocking him several times and pushing him face-first to the ground as they took him into custody.
An ambulance arrived about 30 to 45 minutes later, a witness said.
The AK-47 was later found in Hook’s pickup truck, which has combat veteran plates. Police said they don’t know what triggered the shooting.
