Man faces preliminary hearing in Kalihi manslaughter case
A 36-year-old man suspected of assaulting and killing a man in Kalihi two months ago is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Thursday in District Court.
Reuben Silva made his initial court appearance Tuesday. His bail remains set at $250,000.
He was charged Monday with manslaughter.
Silva was initially arrested Sunday in Waipahu on suspicion of second-degree murder after he allegedly assaulted James Simon, 27, Jan. 20 on King Street in Kalihi. The 27-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with head injuries. Police said he died Feb. 18.
The Medical Examiner’s Office and said the victim died of head injuries caused when he fell on a hard surface, and ruled the manner of death as a homicide.
