Rainbow Wahine wrap up Bruin Wave Invite
Ka‘ili Britos was the top finisher for the University of Hawaii women’s golf team at the Bruin Wave Invitational on Tuesday, placing 31st at 234 after shooting a final-round 77 on the El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana, Calif.
The Rainbow Wahine had a total of 1,119 for the three-round tournament to finish 14th out of 15 teams. Top-ranked Southern California (884) took the team title over co-host UCLA (886). Arizona (896) was third, followed by co-host Pepperdine (922) and Oregon State (924).
The Trojans’ Annie Park (215) earned medalist honors, shooting a 71 in the final round to beat the Waves’ Marissa Chow, an ‘Iolani graduate, and the Bruins’ Tiffany Lua by four strokes.
Other UH players were Charlee Kapiioho (251), Nichole Cruz (254), Liana Otake (255) and Megan Inouye (269).

The Warriors posted a three-round total of 1,119 at Belmont Country Club in Fresno, Calif. Top-ranked California (1,037) easily won the team title, beating out host and runner-up Fresno State by 37 strokes. Brigham Young (1,075), Northwestern (1,079) and Oregon (1,084) rounded out the top five.
The Golden Bears’ Michael Kim (200), Brandon Hagy (206) and Michael Weaver (207) swept the top three spots for medalist honors.
UH’s top finisher was Nainoa Calip (221), who tied for 52nd place. Other Warriors in the tournament were Cory Oride (224), David Saka (225), Scott Yamashita (225), Ryan Kuroiwa (226) and Thomas Yamashita (234).
HPU splits with Martin Methodist
Kristen Caskey allowed two runs on three hits without giving up a walk in seven innings to lead the Hawaii Pacific softball team to a 6-2 victory over Martin Methodist (Tenn.) on Tuesday at Okita Field.
The Sea Warriors (7-5) rallied to win the opener of the doubleheader against the RedHawks (9-7), getting three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings after falling behind 2-0 in the fourth.
In the second game, HPU lost 7-6. Caira Pires drove in three runs to lead the Sea Warriors.
UHH, Holy Names split in baseball
Hawaii Hilo and Holy Names split a baseball doubleheader on Tuesday at Wong Stadium in Hilo.
In the first game, John Abreu drove in three runs to power the Vulcans (6-13, 5-8 Pacific West Conference) to a 10-2 win.
Dane Kinoshita earned the win by scattering five hits in seven innings of the nine-inning game.
The Hawks won the second game 8-4.
Costello wins heptathlon masters title
Vince Costello of Hawaii Masters Track Club won the men’s 60-64 division at the USA Masters Heptathlon Championships held Saturday and Sunday in Kenosha, Wis.
Costello posted 4,960 points to beat out four other competitors in his age group. Dennis Webb of Wichita, Kan., was second with 4,841 points.
