Oda opens up 4-stroke lead
John Oda shot a 3-under 69 Saturday to take a four-stroke lead after the third round of the Hawaii State Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Pearl Country Club.
Oda enters today’s final round at 14-under 202. Jared Sawada (70) is at 10 under, with third-place Shawn Lu (74) far behind at 4 under.
UH water polo splits at Aztec Invitational
Eighth-ranked Hawaii lost to Indiana in the morning before beating Bucknell in the evening Saturday on the opening day of the Aztec Invitational water polo tournament in San Diego.
Amarens Genee scored two goals to lead the Rainbow Wahine (10-6) in their 8-6 loss to the Hoosiers. In UH’s 10-4 victory over the Bisons, Monika Eggens scored six goals.
Bradley places 11th in women’s platform
Genevieve Bradley finished 11th in the women’s platform dive as Hawaii wrapped up competition in the NCAA Zone E Championships on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Bradley, the lone UH diver to make a final Saturday, posted a five-dive total of 447.85 to finish less than two points out of the top 10.
Hawaii Hilo drops 2 games by 1-0 scores
Andrew Naderer and Coley Bruns each combined with two other pitchers for 1-0 shutouts Saturday as Grand Canyon swept a Pacific West Conference baseball doubleheader from Hawaii Hilo at Wong Stadium.
The Antelopes improved to 9-1 in conference, 16-8 overall. The Vulcans fell to 5-14-1 and 5-20-1.
» Dixie State (12-6-1, 5-5-1) salvaged its only win in a four-game series Friday with a 5-2 victory over Hawaii Pacific (17-5, 8-2) at Hans L’Orange Park. Earlier in the day, HPU senior Cory Yuh was named PacWest pitcher of the week for games played Feb. 1-3.
Vulcans sweep softball twinbill
Colleen Aubrey drove in three runs and Emily Green clubbed a two-run home run as Hawaii Hilo beat Cal Baptist 7-2 Saturday for a sweep of a Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader at Hilo.
Brandi Wilson drove in three runs as the Vulcans (16-9, 10-6 PacWest) won the opener, 6-2. Cal Baptist is 17-15 and 8-6.
» Kelsey Barak homered to lead off the eighth inning of the second game as Grand Canyon (20-7, 9-1) completed a pair of 3-2 victories over Chaminade (6-12, 2-6) at Central Oahu Regional Park.
