Homeless man charged in robbery of another man on School Street

Prosecutors today charged a 19-year-old homeless man for allegedly robbing a 21-year-old man in the School Street area Tuesday morning

Austin Calderon was charged with first-degree robbery, possessing a dangerous weapon and drug offenses. His bail was set at $15,000.

Police said the 19-year-old, armed with a dangerous instrument, demanded money from the older man, and walked away from the scene.

The 21-year-old man reported the 9:35 a.m. robbery to police.

Responding officers found the suspect on Houghtailing Street and arrested him 11 minutes after the robbery on suspicion of first-degree robbery and use of a deadly weapon.

Police later searched the man and found narcotics, and arrested him on suspicion of drug offenses.
