The National Weather Service lifted a flood advisory for Hawaii island late this afternoon.

Parts of the island were under the advisory for several hours this afternoon after heavy rain fell between Kailua-Kona and Waikoloa.

“At 2:36 p.m., radar showed heavy rain falling along the Kona slopes between Kailua-Kona and Waikoloa at 2 inches per hour,” said the advisory.

Forecasters advise the public to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding, and to not cross fast-flowing water in a vehicle or on foot.
