The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation board unanimously approved a $35,000 performance bonus Thursday for the agency’s executive director and CEO.
Dan Grabauskas completed his first year on the job this week, and his compensation package includes the potential for the bonus.
Grabauskas had to complete several goals this year that he agreed upon with the board to receive the annual bonus, HART board member Kelsie Hui said.
Those goals included submitting the application and getting an award for federal funding, Hui said. HART inked a $1.55 billion spending agreement with the Federal Transit Administration in December.
Grabauskas’ contract includes an annual base salary of $245,000 plus a $36,000-a-year housing allowance and a transportation allowance of $6,000 a year. Grabauskas opted to take a 5 percent cut from his salary this year as a gesture of solidarity with city employees, Hui said.
A report on the board’s evaluation of Grabauskas in his first year will go to the City Council and soon be available to the public, Hui said. The HART board will finalize objectives at its next meeting for Grabauskas to earn the bonus in his next year, Hui added.
