Severe thunderstorm watch cancelled

LIHUE  – The severe thunderstorm watch for Kauai has been cancelled, however Kauai and Niihau remain in a flash flood watch until 6:00 a.m. Sunday.

Weather impacts on the Garden Island today included:

The Kekaha landfill was closed most of the day due to lightning, but will be reopened tomorrow.  The Countys transfer stations discontinued accepting greenwaste until further notice due to the wet conditions. Depending on conditions at the various transfer stations, greenwaste may be accepted tomorrow.  

The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) closed the Kalalau Trail today due to the possibility of flash flooding.  DLNR will decide on Sunday morning whether the trail will be reopened.
