Pi’ikea Kitamura had a career-high four hits and Scott Squier stranded the tying run on third in the eighth and earned his first career save as Hawaii ended its seven-game road trip with a 7-6 victory over Cal Poly on Sunday afternoon at Baggett Stadium in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Kitamura finished 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs and Andre Real went 3-for-5 with a double, triple, two runs and two RBIs for the Rainbows (8-24, 3-6 Big West), who snapped a seven-game losing streak.
Corey MacDonald (4-3) has pitched Hawaii to half of its wins this season, allowing six runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts in seven innings.
Hawaii led 7-5 in the eighth when MacDonald allowed a single and a double to put the tying run on second with nobody out.
Squier replaced MacDonald and allowed a sacrifice fly but got out of the inning with the Rainbows still ahead.
Hawaii scored all seven of its runs in the first four innings and outhit Cal Poly 13-7.
Granger (3-4) took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits in 1 1/3 innings for the Mustangs (24-9, 6-3).
The Rainbows will fly home on Monday and play their next six games at Les Murakami Stadium, beginning with Cal State Northridge on Friday.
