Vulcans place fourth at PacWest tourney
Led by a pair of sixth-place individual finishes, the Hawaii Hilo women’s golf team placed fourth at the Pacific West Conference championships on Tuesday at Mira Vista Golf and Country Club in El Cerrito, Calif.
The Vulcans’ Kristen Sawada and Erika Morihiro both had rounds of 78 and 85 to finish at 19-over 163, in a four-way tie for sixth place. The pair, who teamed with Nyssa Aoki (171) and Kacie Harada (176) to give UHH a 671 total, earned first-team All-PacWest honors.
Haley Dunn of Dixie State won the individual championship at 7-over 151. Grand Canyon (647) claimed the team title. Hawaii Pacific (744) placed seventh in the eight-team field.
BYUH softball team drops 2 on road
The Brigham Young-Hawaii softball team opened its Pacific West Conference road trip with a pair of losses Tuesday, falling 4-2 and 1-0 to Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont, Calif.
Despite outhitting the Argonauts 9-4 in the first game, the Seasiders (5-34, 2-22) left seven runners on base.
In the second game, Gabrielle Hawkins had a strong outing against NDNU (26-16, 16-8). Hawkins gave up one run on five hits and a walk, but received no help as BYUH managed just three hits.
