The Hawaii men’s basketball team secured its third commitment of the spring on Saturday in City College of San Francisco point guard Quincy Smith, sources confirmed. His commitment came while on his official visit to UH this weekend.

Smith, a 6-foot, 175-pound freshman, averaged 9.1 points, 3.6 assists and 1.7 turnovers on 46 percent shooting from the field, 74.2 percent from the free-throw line and 28.6 percent on 3-pointers. He swiped 2.3 steals per game.

He’ll have three years of eligibility at the Division I level starting in 2013-14.

CCSF coach Justin Labach recently called Smith his "toughest guy" on a team that went 31-0 before losing in the California Community College Athletic Association playoffs.

It’s believed Smith will sign his official letter of intent on Monday.

"He’s really strong with the ball. He’s got a very high basketball IQ. Super athletic, and a great defender," Labach said.

North Texas and Long Island were believed to be the other schools at the top of Smith’s list of choices.

Smith attended La Jolla Prep (Calif.) out of Deer Valley High School (Ariz.) last year and was a teammate of current UH freshman Aaron Valdes.

He joins a recruiting class of swingman Negus Webster-Chan, guard Garrett Nevels, wing Michael Thomas and center Stefan Jovanovic.
