Driver dies after solo crash on Kunia Road
A 60-year-old man died Monday after paramedics took him to the hospital in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash on Kunia Road, police said.
Police said it is possible that the man, who drove a red Ford Ranger, suffered a medical condition before the 9:45 a.m. crash, although medical examiners have yet to make a determination.
The Ranger was heading north when it crossed the centerline, then veered back, went off the roadway, crashed into a fence and overturned, police said.
The man was taken by emergency services personnel to Pali Momi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The death is the 23rd recorded on Oahu roads so far this year, compared with 21 at this time in 2012.
Ewa Beach vehicle blaze likely was arson
A vehicle fire that caused an estimated $65,000 in damage at an Ewa Beach home Monday morning appears to have been intentionally set, a Fire Department spokesman said.
The fire started in a new truck equipped with work boxes, damaged a sedan and damaged a garage and its contents, Capt. Terry Seelig said.
Firefighters received the alarm at about 3:30 a.m. for the blaze at 91-1083 Hoowalea St.
No one was injured.
The truck was destroyed, and its loss was estimated at $40,000. The garage sustained an estimated $20,000 in damage, and contents inside suffered $4,000 in damage. The sedan, outside the garage, suffered $1,000 in damage.
The Fire Department turned over the case to police for a criminal investigation, Seelig said.
In an unrelated fire, Petite Garlic restaurant in Waikiki sustained $4,000 in damage to the building and its contents at about 1:30 a.m. Monday.
The fire was caused by an accumulation of grease and oil in the stove area of the second-floor kitchen, said Capt. Gary Lum, Fire Department spokesman.
Firefighters brought the fire under control at 1:54 a.m. No one was injured.
