Man arrested and charged in Maui Country Club shooting
WAILUKU » A 59-year-old man accused of firing at golfers and a police officer with a pellet rifle has been arrested and charged.
The Maui News reports that a grand jury on Friday indicted Alan Engling on 20 charges for allegedly shooting at golfers at the Maui Country Club and a police officer last week. He was arrested Saturday.
Engling is charged with 11 counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, seven counts of second-degree assault and one count each of first-degree assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
Engling is accused of shooting at seven golfers on April 21. One golfer suffered injuries to his upper right arm.
He also is accused of shooting an officer in the chest as officers approached to arrest him. The officer was wearing a bullet-proof vest.
