UH coed sailors fail in bid to reach finals
The Hawaii coed sailing team missed the cut at the ICSA National Semifinals over the weekend in Hampton, Va.
Thirty-five college teams were split into two divisions, with Hawaii placed into the Western Division. In the Western semifinal, Hawaii accumulated 269 points, 38 points behind ninth-place Wisconsin. The top nine schools in each fleet qualified to compete in the ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championship Finals, May 28-30 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
UH heads to the ICSA Team Race National Championship, May 25-27, hosted by the University of South Florida.
Hawaii golf team leads after first round
The Hawaii men’s golf team recorded an opening-round 292 at the Big West Conference championships Sunday in San Jacinto, Calif., at The Country Club at Soboba Springs. The Warriors hold a one-stroke lead over Cal State Fullerton entering today’s second round. UH junior Nainoa Calip shot a 3-under 69 and is tied for the individual lead.
Vulcans sweep Silverswords in softball
Hawaii Hilo took a softball doubleheader from Chaminade on Sunday at Central Oahu Regional Park, 18-7 in five innings and 10-8. The Vulcans pounded out 15 hits in the first game, when they scored 13 runs in the top of the fifth.
In the second game Colleen Aubrey hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to put the Vulcans (37-17, 23-7 Pacific West Conference) ahead for good. Chaminade dropped to 25-21 and 17-13.
