The public’s help is being sought by medical examiners to help identify a man whose body was on the reef off Sand Island this morning by a kayaker.
The man was described as between 20 and 40 years old, about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 180-200 pounds. He had short, dark hair but no apparent facial hair or noticeable scars.
The Department of Medical Examiner released photos of two of his tattoos. The word “freedom” in an Old English script font is across his upper back. On a second tattoo, an eagle or phoenix is depicted on his upper middle chest. Both tattoos are in black ink only.
He was found in an olive green Ezekiel T-shirt, black Under Armor shorts with small white polka dots and no shoes or slippers.
Anyone with information should call 768-3090 and ask for the on-duty investigator.
An autopsy will be performed Friday. There does not appear any evidence of foul play although that could after the examination, the Medical Examiner’s office said.
The body was located by a kayaker at about 10:30 a.m. on the reef on the Ewa side of Kalihi Channel.
Firefighters retrieved the body and turned it over to Honolulu police and the Medical Examiner at the Keehi Lagoon boat ramp at the Marine Education Center.
Police have tentatively classified the incident as an unattended death
