A 25-year-old man has been charged with breaking into a Kaimuki home and threatening the homeowner with a knife Sunday afternoon.

Eric Victoria, who gave police no local address, was charged Tuesday with first-degree burglary, first-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree theft and breaking into a car. His bail was set at $15,000.

Victoria’s preliminary hearing will be held in District Court on Friday.

Victoria was caught in the basement of the Winam Avenue home just around noon on May 5 holding a crowbar belonging to the homeowner, according to a police affidavit filed in District Court Wednesday. When confronted by the 40-year-old homeowner, Victoria dropped the crowbar and took out a knife.

Victoria then allegedly said: “I didn’t take anything, you can check my pockets,” and fled.

An hour later, a police officer driving on Diamond Head Circle looking for a red pickup involved in a car break-in on May 4 saw a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle’s description parked at the curb.

The officer said the driver matched the description of the Winam Avenue burglary suspect and was positively identified by the homeowner.

Later that day, another motorist reported that her car had been broken into on Diamond Head Circle on Sunday near where the red truck had been parked. The woman said her wallet, purse, diaper bag and other items had been stolen. The stolen items were recovered from Victoria’s red truck.
