Power to all customers has now been restored after Molokai began experiencing an island-wide power outage about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Maui Electric Company reported.

The outage initially affected roughly 3,200 customers, officials said.

Parts of Kaunakakai were brought back on-line at 11:38 a.m.; Hoolehua, including the Airport, was restored to power at 11:43 a.m.; Customers on the island’s west end had full service at 11:51 a.m.; and power to the Kualapuu area was restored at 12:03 p.m.; remaining customers in Kaunakakai were restored at 12:18 p.m.; and the whole island was back on-line as of 12:37 p.m.

MECO officials said the cause of the outage are still being investigated, and an update would be provided as soon as more information becomes available.
