Electrical failure blamed for Kailua fire
An electrical malfunction of a wall outlet behind a refrigerator started a fire Tuesday that caused $65,000 in damage at a Kailua apartment, the fire department said Wednesday.
Spokesman Terry Seelig said the kitchen, part of the living room and rafters in the second-story apartment at 547 Wailepo St. were damaged. The Red Cross helped the woman who lived there find shelter.
Confrontation sparks threats, arrest
A 61-year-old man who was confronted about taking items from a store in the Keeaumoku Street area was arrested Tuesday, accused of threatening two men.
Police said the suspect was outside a store when another man questioned him about the items. The suspect then attacked him, police said. When two other men stepped in to help, the suspect allegedly threatened them with a rock.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary, first-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree assault.
