Phillips loses in Golden Gloves semifinals
Wahiawa’s John Phillips was eliminated Friday night in the semifinals of the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions boxing event in Salt Lake City.
Phillips lost by decision to Steven Nelson of Colorado in the 178-pound division.
UH’s Genee named Academic All-District
University of Hawaii water polo player Amarens Genee has been voted to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 at-large team.
Genee, a kinesiology major who will graduate this year, is the first Rainbow Wahine in her sport to earn the honor. She now advances to the national ballot for Academic All-American consideration.
HPU baseball players honored
Hawaii Pacific baseball players Kale Sumner and Marvin Campbell have earned first-team all-region honors.
Sumner, the PacWest batting champion at .386, received both Daktronics and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) honors.
Campbell, third in the PacWest in slugging (.614), was named to the Daktronics first team and to the NCBWA Second team.
