Heavy rain over leeward slopes of Hawaii island between Puuanahulu and Waimea will persist through the afternoon, National Weather Service forecasters said.

Hawaii County police urged motorists to drive with caution along Highway 190 in the area because of the rain and ponding on the road.

So far, the afternoon showers have not spread to Oahu.

Forecasters say we can expect at least one more day of light winds and the potential for heavy afternoon showers.

Trade winds should start to return Thursday or Friday.

Heavy rain in Windward and East Oahu prompted a flood advisory for a couple of hours Sunday afternoon.

During the 24-hour period ending at 2 p.m. today, about 2.3 inches fell at Bellows Air Force Staion, 2 inches fell at Maunawili and the Hawaii Kai Golf Course recorded 1.9 inches.
