Dolan places ninth in K1 200-meter final

Kailua’s Ryan Dolan took ninth in the K1 200-meter B final kayak race on Sunday in the Sprint World Cup No. 2 in Racice, Czech Republic. Dolan’s time was 38.170, 1.876 seconds behind the race’s first-place winner.

Dolan finished third in his heat and fifth in his semifinal to qualify for the B final.

Zietz falls in Rio Pro quarterfinal

Kauai’s Sebastian Zietz lost his quarterfinal heat against Australia’s Mick Fanning at the Billabong Rio Pro on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro.

Zietz’s score of 12.37 was not enough to advance in the ASP World Tour surf contest. Fanning recorded a 13.37, then lost in the semifinals to eventual winner Jordy Smith.
