Uluave, Kane are standouts at combine
Punahou’s Semisi Uluave and Kamehameha’s Dylan Kane were among the standouts at last week’s Oakland Nike Football SPARQ Combine at Laney College in Oakland, Calif.
Uluave, a 6-4, 317-pounder who was a first team All-State offensive lineman as a sophomore last season, ranked 11th among more than 1,000 athletes who came from 15 states to participate in the SPARQ combine, which stands for speed, power, agility, reaction and quickness.
Kane, a 6-21⁄2, 185-pound defensive back and incoming junior, ranked No. 12. Athletes were tested and measured in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, powerball toss, vertical jump and a peak power rating.
Two other Punahou athletes, Tumua Tuinei and Davis Miyashiro-Saipaia, both incoming juniors, finished 31st and 43rd.
Rainbow Wahine in 12th place at nationals
The Hawaii women’s sailing team is in 12th place after the first day of the ICSA Women’s National Championship semifinals at Magnuson Hotel Marina Cove on Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg, Fla.
UH totaled 160 points through the day’s 16 races. Cornell is in first place with 73 points.
The semifinals wrap up today, with the top nine teams advancing to the finals, where they will join nine other teams who have already qualified.
UH’s Madeline Kennedy and Katrina Berry are in 10th place in the A division with 77 points. Rainbow Wahine sailors Lindsay Stewart and Hanne Nagatani are in 12th place in the B division with 83 points.
UHH’s Yamauchi drops to tie for 80th
Hawaii Hilo’s Dalen Yamauchi dropped into a tie for 80th place at the NCAA Division II golf championships at Hershey Country Club East in Hershey, Pa.
Yamauchi shot a 9-over 80 on Wednesday and stands at 15-over 157, 19 shots behind individual leader Rob Damschen (70-69—138) of Cal State Stanislaus going into today’s third round. Yamauchi was tied for 74th after the first round.
