Majam earns Academic All-America honor
University of Hawaii senior Kelly Majam was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division I softball team on Thursday. Majam made the second team and is the third UH softball player to earn a place on the academic All-America teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Majam posted a 3.86 grade-point average and graduated this spring with a degree in secondary education in health and physical education. She is a three-time NFCA scholar-athlete and earned the top grade-point average on the team every year in her UH career.
"At the beginning of the year I wrote down a list of goals I wanted and that was one of them," Majam said. "It’s just such an honor."
On the field, Majam, UH’s leadoff batter all four years, led the Rainbow Wahine in seven categories and was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Year for her play in center field.
Majam joins Tracy Loo and Stephanie Ricketts as the only UH softball players named academic All-Americans. Loo made the team in 1992 and Ricketts was a third-team pick last year. Majam and Ricketts were this year’s female recipients of the Jack Bonham Award, the UH athletic department’s top student-athlete honor.
