Unknown man found in van is arrested
A Kalihi man found a 21-year-old man hiding in his van and called police just before midnight Sunday after he discovered the door of his parked vehicle open.
The 21-year-old suspect was held by the owner of the van until police arrived. The suspect was arrested early Monday on suspicion of breaking into a vehicle.
Suspect accused of terroristic threatening
A 28-year-old man is in police custody after he threatened three people during a fight Sunday night.
Police said the incident began as a fight between the suspect and a 26-year-old woman in a Waipahu home. The suspect left, then returned just before 11 p.m. and threatened the victim and two other people — a 26-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman. The suspect fled and was arrested just after midnight a few blocks from the home on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.
Fire that destroyed shed was accidental
Maui fire investigators have classified as accidental a fire in Lahaina that engulfed a shed and a pile of wood pallets.
The Maui Fire Department said the fire was reported at 4:43 a.m. Monday in the Maui Grown coffee base yard near Keawe Street. The wooden shed, about 15 by 10 feet, is used as a sleeping area for a property caretaker, the department said. The fire was brought under control at 4:55 a.m.
The shed and a canopy were totally destroyed. No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $5,000.
